Patricia Shoer Goldman-Rakic (1937-2003) was a preeminent scientist who discovered the neurobiology of the prefrontal cortex, its fundamental role in higher cognition, and the cellular basis of thought disorder in schizophrenia. She was a founding member of the Department of Neurobiology at Yale Medical School along with her husband, Pasko Rakic.
