Col. Richard Stone Bostwick was the son of Major Charles Bostwick and his wife Mary Treat. He was born on December 22, 1831 in New Haven, Connecticut. Richard was a Colonel and Commander of the 27th Connecticut Volunteer Infantry during the US Civil War. The Colonel was taken prisoner at the Battle of Chancellorsville, Virginia in 1863. He was released after 7 weeks and mustered out on July 27, 1863.

On November 29, 1876 he was united in marriage to Mary Jane Gibson, the daughter of Thomas Gibson, Jr. and his wife Frances Maria Hastings. There were no children born to the couple. Richard is interred with his wife, parents and siblings.
