Chandler Cowles, son of Luman Cowles (1789-1823) and Eunetia Pardee (1794-1869) was born on Dec 25, 1816 in Kensington, Hartford County, CT.  On June 17, 1841 he married Susan Evelina Sabin who was born Sep 23, 1817 in Milford, New Haven County, CT.  They had five children, all born in New Haven:  Emily Jane Aug 8, 1842, Anna Louisa Jan 11, 1844, Elizabeth Sherman June 2, 1845, Susan Chandler Feb 24, 1847 and Edward Luman Nov 24, 1849.
